How many times have you walked out of a movie hall feeling like you’re now ready to take on the world? At the end of every Marvel movie, we all leave feeling like, at some point, we’re definitely going to save the world.
That’s why I find it strange when people say “oh it’s just a book/ movie, get over it”. The truth is that it’s not just a movie, it’s a reflection of us at different place and time, it’s a reflection of our society. That’s why literature, cinema, art are all so integral to our society, it’s who we are.
Not just that but this art is everywhere. It’s in the words you use, the content you consume, the ideas that surround you.
When I joined Adriene on her 30 day yoga journey, she sent me daily emails filled with optimism and encouragement. Slowly she transformed my inbox from the place of stress that it had become in 2020 to a place of hope. And this change may seem subtle but it made a difference.
So, if you have a choice to make today, between something dark and something creative, uplifting and real, choose while thinking about how you feel. If you feel like watching Mission Impossible to elevate your mood instead of something well-researched and respectful of gravity then go for it! That’s what art is for.
